race description, disciplines & distances
detailed pre-race bulletin HERE
Ambush is very proud to partner with the Traingle AR club or Raleigh-Durham to produce this premiere event. The guys of TriangleAR really know their way around the area and have set a great course utilizing the best elements of both parks. It is challenging, yet not overwhelming, and no matter what your ability or experience level, you will have fun!
The race includes mountain biking on singletrack trails and gravel & paved roads, trekking, life vest assisted swim, trail running and a navigation element with true "O" maps provided by Backwoods Orienteering Club.
Part of the challenge, and a lot of the fun, is the surprises that the race will throw your way, so we can't disclose the exact distances of each particular element. It would be more useful to simply view the race in terms of time and to realize that you'll be on the course for 6-8 hours hours, and plan accordingly. You'll bike more than you'll hike, you'll hike more than you run, and you'll run more than you swim.
team composition
The race is open to solos, but most people find it more fun if they team up with one or more friends. Not only that, but you can save money by regsitering your team all at once. Team sizes can be anywhere from 2 to 4 people, any gender composition. Masters are welcome.
SPECIAL 9-1-1 CATEGORY: Racers and all team members must be full-time employees of Governmental Police/Fire/EMS agencies..this includes positions such as Animal Control, Dispatchers and any Military equivalent of these positions such as Military Police or Medics. No part-time, reserve, volunteers or privatized agencies may enter this category. Must present Employment ID at check-in to verify. Winners in these categories will be the 2005 Carolina Police and Fire Games Medalists and will be provided awards through that organization.
The awards categories are subdivided according to how many people we get in each of the classifications, and usually go three deep. If the category is less than 5 teams, that category will be rolled up into the next applicable category. 9-1-1 Teams are eligible for special awards through the 2005 Carolina Police and Fire Games.
